Merril Press is an independent publisher of unusual nonfiction books by authors who know what they’re writing about.
Merril Press was established in 1987 by Alan M. Gottlieb as a division of Merril Mail Marketing, Inc. We are based in Bellevue, Washington, near Seattle.
Merril Press founder Alan Gottlieb says, “Being an author published by numerous publishers showed me the need for a new way to get unusual books to the public.”
Merril Press specializes in books that have alternative markets. They are the kinds of books that challenge conventional wisdom — books that major publishing houses would like to ignore or even blacklist. We select manuscripts by the most qualified writers and work with them to create a readable, factual and remarkable finished product.
Our Editor In Chief is Ron Arnold, an award-winning journalist and author of many books.
Ron reads dozens of submissions each year and chooses only the best to transmit to the Merril Press editorial board. Those that gain approval are subjected to Ron’s intensive editing and fact checking — and then a panel of readers smooths any rough edges.
Both Alan and Ron are listed in Who’s Who in America.
Despite our rigorous editing process, Merril Press is an author-friendly publisher. If you are the author of an unusual nonfiction book, contact Merril Press first. We’re looking for authors who’ve lived their subjects and have the power to say what they’ve lived.
Merril Press is proud to serve as the primary distributor of The Free Enterprise Press, a nonprofit publisher of outstanding titles. The Free Enterprise Press is a division of the The Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise, a tax exempt nonpartisan educational organization based in Bellevue, Washington.
Merril Press books are distributed to the book trade by Midpoint Trade Books, New York City, and to libraries by Quality Books, Inc. of Oregon, IL.
